UK early 21st century - having under-estimated the significance of the religious part of our identity - as individuals and within groups in society - we are now overplaying it. Agree/disagree/comments?

Yes I think you're right. Religion sometimes fits into how we feel our selves to be. But very seldom always. It's a bit like online identities. Twitter for chat some days, email for work another, facebook for friends. We all want to be different people at different times - that's a 21st Cent condition. And the technology now allows it.
